These are the things that ye shall do
8He hath shewed thee, O man, what is good; and what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God?
That is the quintessential Bible To-Do list. It's clear in purpose, to the point, short and simple. There is another one though, that I think is worth a look, it's found in Zechariah, and the setup will be familiar to any who have spent time with the Prophets. The Lord punishes a little but desires to bless much.
14For thus saith the LORD of hosts; As I thought to punish you, when your fathers provoked me to wrath, saith the LORD of hosts, and I repented not:
15So again have I thought in these days to do well unto Jerusalem and to the house of Judah: fear ye not.
You can feel the blessings building, and they are good ones, read the whole chapter. First the Lord provides the Instruction, it's a healthy mix of To-Do and Don't.
16These are the things that ye shall do; Speak ye every man the truth to his neighbour; execute the judgment of truth and peace in your gates:
17And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.
Truth, peace... It's about that simple. Living honestly and in peace with those around you, Why? Cause the Lord hates imagined evil and false oaths, that's pretty strong reason in my book. This simple concept, like most from the Old Testament Prophets, carries perfectly into the New testament...
17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
